Pfister collected stories of her father's work in the San Diego, California fire department. Included are stories of successful rescues, injuries to firefighters, pranks the firefighters pull on each other and tragic stories of bodies found after a fire. Tanner does a comparison between her great uncle, Ned Winder, and J. Golden Kimball, a prominent figure in the Mormon Church. Both characters hold similar reputations for their humor, off-colored language, and love for the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mills analyzes Mormon missionary story folklore and then divides it into categories that reflect on its subject matter. Mills discusses each category of missionary folklore and then charts similarities in the content of their stories on a visual diagram.
